MITRANS PG Visit to Malaysia Airports Berhad, KLIA 2 and DCA

We don't really have much time for a visit, plus we're all from different background or discipline. But Airports do have the combination of the multidisciplinary knowledge, it is a perfect location where everybody have a bits of their chunk. From Engineering, marketing, architecture, you name it. The trip gathered 13 of us, Azlan, Adibah, Zulfadhli, Adi, Fatin, Kak Roslina our host, 4 practical students , Faiz Farhan, Siti Hamidah and me. Dr Jasmee Jaafar and KAk Linda is our escorting officer (is this the right term?) that day.

Gathered at MAHB at about 9am, and we're briefed about the plan of MAHB to developed their own academic center. The current progress, the experience from scratch by Mr Thomas. There are Q and A session together with Kak Nandung (Roslina). This visit is a special one indeed, We're given a mission which is to identify customer expectation along our visit at the KLIA 2. So we are divided into 4 groups.

Our next location is to DCA tower. It is the world tallest air traffic tower control center. Tight security and it is not that easy to be granted a permission for a visit. We're briefed by Mr. Sharudin about the tower operation and went for a tour on the tower. From the tower we can see the complex system of traffic control, we were also given a chance to stand and observe from outside the control centre which is at the balcony. Extremely high, and everything around there looks like Lego toys.

Next, we head to KLIA 2 which is about 400 meters from the DCA tower. To me KLIA2 is a huge shopping complex, they might easily beat mid valley mega mall with a few twitch, I don't see it as an airport, If you're used to the old LCCT where everything is very basic small and really do look cheap, KLIA2 shouldn't have the low cost term used on them, it actually exceeded the international airports, if you don't believe me, go to vietnam, thailand or indeonesia, you'll agree with me. I hope they'll maintain and off course improve. They've a really clean toilet, signage is OK but still need to be improved, good surau, wide walking area, but the distance is quite lengthy. But if you can't walk they have the free buggy service unlike the old LCCT. Within the waiting area, the environment is bit different, it's much more exclusive stuff around. and Wow there's a movie lounge, so you can lie down like a blanket and snore. There's a lot of police walking around and this is crucial in a place where crooks are hard to be sniffed, yeah you should feel safe there. Well off course there are some noticeable hiccups here and there for example the malfunction directories, hidden atm machine. Anyway that is just my point of view, who cares right. All I have to say is you guys should check this place out, crash to the cafe order some good strong roasted macadamia coffee or whatever you might need and read some good books, Professors should check out the friendly stewardess  get inspired and write some grand theory there. Enjoy your flight and Pray for MH370

Special thanks to Kak Nandung, Mr. Thomas and the rest of MAHB crew for their hospitality
